Renowned Adi Writer Ilo Libang Passes Away

Ilo Libang, a famed and renowned writer from the Adi community, passed away on June 11 at a Dibrugarh hospital in Assam after a long illness.
The Adi Agom Kébang (AAK) expressed its deepest condolences on Libang’s passing. Dr. Tayek Talom, the AAK President, said that Libang’s contributions to writing, publishing books, and social development activities would be remembered forever.
The AAK District Unit also visited Libang’s family in Parbuk village and attended his last rites.
Libang was believed to be born around August 9, 1950, in Samak village, just days before the devastating Himalayan earthquake of 1950 . Due to financial constraints, he was unable to complete his secondary education after starting at Govt. High School Roing.
Despite dropping out, Libang founded the Ringgong-Banggo Society in 1972 and served as its secretary till 1997. He also served as Parbuk Village Secretary for three terms before entering politics. He was an ASM from 2008 to 2013 and the District Congress Committee (I) Secretary for five years.
He was selected as the first Secretary for Adi Cultural & Literary Society (ACLS) from 1984-1987 and as an Editor.
He lead the ACLS from 1998 to 2001 during which, he has written many books in Adi few of which are – Sé:dí Me:lo (2001), Adi Do:ying (2011), Gu:té Béné (2012), Unying-A:ran (2013), Péné Péntong (2015), Kéyum Kéro (2018), Milík Mipe (2019), La:lalilo (2020), Pémí-píong Bédang (2023) etc.
