Awareness Program on Drug Abuse Held at DBS, Nonpu, Doimukh

Doimukh I July I 17 :

A mass awareness program on drug abuse, its ill effects, and life after recovery, was held at Don Bosco School, Nonpu, Doimukh. 

The event was organised by the Papumpare District Police, led by SP, Taru Gusar, IPS, under the guidance of Home Minister, Mama Natung, and DGP, Anand Mohan, IPS, in collaboration with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Nirjuli. 

 The program saw the participation of several dignitaries including  Mutchu Mitti, Advisor to Home Minister, MLA of the 14th Doimukh Constituency, Nabam Vivek, and DIGP ICR, Vijay Kumar IPS, DC Papumpare  Jiken Bomjen APCS, ZPC  Nabam Yakum among others. 

 The event commenced with a warm welcome speech delivered by SP Papumpare, Taru Gusar IPS. 

 The audience comprised of Panchayat leaders, local Head Gaon Burahs (HGBs), Gaon Burahs (GBs), students, and the general public. 

The program saw active participation of drug survivors, who quit the addiction, and recovered. 

 Anti-drug T-shirts were distributed to the drug survivors along with letters of appreciation, recognising their courageous journey of recovery. 

 The program featured one act play by the drug survivors, and sharing of their testimonies which poignantly depicted their struggles and triumphs over addiction.

 A documentary showcasing the harrowing life of drug abusers was also screened, giving a stark reminder of the realities of drug addiction. 

 In his address , Home Minister Mama Natung underscored the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and communities. He emphasized the critical need for collective efforts to combat this menace and highlighted the role of awareness programs in educating the public, especially the youth, about the dangers of drug addiction. 

Natung praised the Papumpare District Police for organizing such an important event and pledged his full support to their ongoing efforts to fight drug abuse. 

He shared his vision for a drug-free Arunachal Pradesh, detailing various initiatives and strategies that the government plans to implement. These included stricter law enforcement, better rehabilitation facilities, and continuous awareness campaigns.

 The Minister also applauded the rehabilitation centers for their relentless work in helping individuals recover from addiction. He stressed the importance of community involvement in these efforts and called upon all stakeholders, including the police, administration, and the public, to unite in this battle against drugs. 

He assured that during his tenure, he would provide all necessary support and cooperation to ensure the success of these initiatives. 

Advisor to Home Minister, Mutchu Mitti, delivered an inspiring and personal speech. He began by recalling his own experiences with addiction during his youth, candidly sharing how he was drawn towards substance abuse but managed to overcome it with determination and support.

 His story served as a powerful motivation for the drug survivors in the audience, showing them that it is possible to defeat addiction and reclaim one’s life. 

DGP, Anand Mohan, IPS, provided a detailed analysis of the drug abuse situation, both globally and within the state. 

Mohan highlighted the multifaceted approach the police are taking to combat drug trafficking, including sting operations and intelligence gathering. He detailed successful operations that have dismantled drug networks and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police, community, and rehabilitation centers.

 He praised the efforts of the rehabilitation centers and urged the community to support these institutions.

The DGP concluded his speech by reiterating the police department’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse and ensuring a safer, healthier future for all. 

During the program, all the participants took a pledge to live a drug free life, and to fight against the drug menace in the society. 

 The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by SDPO, Papumpare, Radhe Obing, APPS.
