Human Rights Day Commemorated with Mega Legal Awareness Workshop
ITANAGAR I Dec I 10 :
To commemorate Human Rights Day, the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA), in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) and Bodhana NGO, organized a Mega Legal Awareness cum Workshop.
The event focused on the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, Child-Friendly Legal Services, the Importance of Marriage Registration, and various NALSA Schemes.
The program took place at Government Upper Primary School, ESS Sector, Itanagar.
Advocate Kamin Danggen, a Resource Person from APSLSA, conducted an insightful session covering several topics: NALSA’s Legal Services for Senior Citizens, Child-Friendly Legal Services Schemes, Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes, the Importance of Marriage Registration, Legal Services for Disaster Victims, and the National Legal Helpline (15100).
Advocate Kani Nada Maling, President of APWWS, addressed key legal frameworks designed to protect vulnerable groups. These included the Sexual Harassment at the Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act 2012, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2015.
A live performance by the Bodhana team creatively illustrated the significance of human rights for all genders, including transgender individuals.
Additionally, a unique exercise encouraged students to reflect on and challenge gender stereotypes through art, fostering critical thinking and dialogue.
Advocates Terji Gamlin and Adv. Iken Ado also shared valuable perspectives on relevant legal topics, enriching the discussions.
Nang Khema Khamhoo, the Head Teacher of the school, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organizers for selecting their institution for this impactful event. She praised the program for combining legal education with interactive approaches to address societal challenges.
The event was attended by the Under Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh State Human Rights Commission, Keter Bagra, and 254 participants, including students, teaching faculty, school staff, APWWS members, and staff from the One Stop Centre, Itanagar.
