ITANAGAR I Apr I 3 :

Akashvani in the North-East region will increase airtime for women-centric programs, to ensure inclusivity and community engagement. This was informed by Ashish Bhatnagar, ADG (A&BO) (CO-Akashvani) NEZ, Akashvani and Doordarshan Guwahati, during an interactive session with eminent women personalities from various sectors at the Akashvani Itanagar office today.

Mr. Bhatnagar revealed that discussions are underway to introduce a dedicated daily segment, ‘Women-Time,’ in Akashvani’s programming in the region. He emphasized that this initiative would be interactive and participatory, ensuring wider engagement from the audience regardless of their social and economic background.

The ADG emphasized the need for government welfare schemes to reach every individual and highlighted Akashvani’s vital role in empowering citizens with accurate and timely information. He also addressed concerns over the growing menace of misinformation, stressing that Akashvani and Doordarshan remain among the most credible media platforms in an era dominated by social media and disinformation. Recognizing the increasing mental health challenges faced by youth and the elderly, Mr. Bhatnagar urged all stakeholders to support Akashvani Itanagar’s efforts in raising awareness and providing guidance for these vulnerable groups.

Women leaders from diverse fields shared their insights, offering innovative ideas to enhance Akashvani’s programming, making it more inclusive, issue-driven, and reflective of societal needs. The meeting marked a significant step toward making Akashvani a community-driven platform. Earlier, the ADG interacted with Akashvani Itanagar staff, including both permanent and casual assignees, and later visited Doordarshan Kendra Itanagar.
