Bike Rally Marks World No Tobacco Day in ICR, 30 Riders Take Part

The streets of Itanagar came alive with the roar of motorcycles as approximately 30 riders from the Arunachal Bullet Club (ABC) participated in a bike rally to mark World No Tobacco Day on Friday.

The programme was a jointly organised by the District Tobacco Control Cell, ICR in collaboration with the Arunachal Bullet Club (ABC).

The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner, ICR, Shweta Nagarkoti from her office premises.

The rally aimed to spread awareness about the danger of tobacco use and emphasised this year’s theme, “Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference.”

In her address, Nagarkoti highlighted the critical importance of safeguarding children from the predatory tactics of the tobacco industry.

The DC highlighted the need for community involvement and persistent efforts to discourage tobacco use, especially among the youth.

She also pointed out the importance of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), urging its strict compliance and enforcement to protect public health.

Despite the rainy weather, the rally proceeded as planned, starting from the DC Office and culminating at the premises of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) in Nirjuli.

Further Nagarkoti reiterated the administration’s commitment to protecting the health and well-being of the community, particularly the younger generation.

She also encouraged the public to stay informed and actively participate in tobacco control activities.
