Child rapist evading trial for six years finally behind bars

A man accused of raping a child and who had been on the run for six years has been arrested by Capital police on Friday
The accused, identified as Rajesh, also known as Gour Kishor Singh, was apprehended from Guwahati, Assam.
Rajesh had been evading trial since 2018 after initially being arrested and later released on bail for sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2015.
A case, registered under Section 376(2)(i) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, was filed in Itanagar WPS Case No- 49/16. The case is currently being tried before the Special Judge (POCSO) in Yupia.
The arrest was made by a special capital police team led by SI Samuel Ngupok, Ct Sandeep Yadav, Ct Lobsang Gyatslan,and L/Ct Arty Degu, with assistance from the District Detection Team under the supervision of SP Capital.
The team worked tirelessly, utilizing both technical and human intelligence to track down the fugitive, a press from Capital Police reads .
The arrest of Rajesh marked the team’s second major success.
Previously, the team arrested Majibur Rahman, who had been absconding for 11 years after escaping from Jully Jail. Rahman was wanted for the brutal murder and rape of two sisters in Akashdeep, Itanagar.
