DNGC Organizes “FIT INDIA WEEK” in Collaboration with SAI

ITANAGAR, 29 November: Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), Itanagar organized FIT INDIA WEEK in Collaboration with Sports’ Authority of India (SAI) at DNGC Playground. The event was attended by more than 400 students, NCC Cadets, NSS volunteers, the teaching and the non-teaching staff and a host of media persons and invitees.

The Mega event was inaugurated by Tamme Phassang, the Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) as the Chief Guest. He exhorted the Youth to be health conscious and to maintain hygiene and cleanliness as only physical activity, exercise is not enough unless surrounding is clean it is difficult to keep fit and healthy. He highlighted the basic principles of fitness adding that excess of everything is bad.
“One should know that one’s body requires only certain amount of everything- if it is taken in excess, it will harm”, he added.

He called upon the students to maintain utmost discipline and positivity and appealed one and all to keep surrounding clean and hygienic to make Itanagar a better and healthier City to live in, for which, it is necessary that we don’t make our surroundings dirty and do physical exercises and yoga. He further advised the youth to keep themselves away from drugs and other health hazardous bad habits- only then one can ensure FIT ARUNACHAL and FIT INDIA.

He also administered the Fitness Pledge to all including the Faculty Members, the non-teaching staff, the students and the national level athletes.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Fr (Dr) Jose George SDB, the principal of DonBosco college, Itanagar highlighted the importance of discipline not only for students rather for every sphere of life for achieving success.


​​DNGC- Principal Dr. M.Q. Khan, in his speech, elaborated on objectives and importance of organizing the 6th Edition of FIT INDIA WEEK. He emphasized with justifications that such significant mega event creates awareness among students and all others for healthy and fit life style as fitness is prerequisite to lead a happy and healthy life.

He further held that sedentary life style, sitting long hours and lack of physical activities are responsible for several diseases and obesity. According to him, Fitness is achieved not only by physical exercise rather an organized life style, balanced healthy diet and proper calories as per requirement of body which varies from individual to individual. “Addiction to drugs, alcohol, smoking, and social media can also affect Fitness”, he added.
Football, Volleyball, Tug of War matches between NSS volunteers and NCC Cadets were played in both the Men and Women category to mark the event.

Satrajit Kachari, the Assistant Director & Chief Operating Officer, Sports’ Authority of India (SAI) Itanagar elaborated on objectives of FIT INDIAL WEEK besides lauding the role of DNGCI for always collaborating with SAI for the event.
The event was coordinated by Botem Moyong, the Programme Officer (NSS) and L.R. Singh (PET).
