Galo Community Celebrates Mopin Festival with Traditional Fervour in Ziro

Mopin, the major festival of the Galo community, was celebrated with traditional fervor at Medow Muse in Ziro, Lower Subansiri District, on Sunday.
Er. Hage Appa, MLA of the 17-Ziro-Hapoli (ST) Assembly Constituency, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest along with his wife, Hage Yanku, while Advocate Pura Dollo, ZPC of Lower Subansiri District, was the Guest of Honour. Among the special invitees was Pura Sambyo, President of Tanii Supuñ Dukuñ (TSD).

In his address, MLA Hage Appa praised the Galo community in Ziro for organizing Mopin in a grand manner and encouraged them to continue preserving and promoting their rich cultural heritage.
“The Galo community stands out in the fields of art and culture,” he remarked, while appreciating the cultural performances presented during the festivities. He also noted that such festivals help strengthen communal bonds and foster cultural exchange among the many tribes residing in Ziro.

Advocate Pura Dollo echoed similar sentiments and urged the Galo community to preserve, protect, and carry forward the legacy of their forefathers for future generations. “Loss of culture is loss of identity.
If we stop celebrating festivals, we risk losing our traditions and values,” he said, appealing to everyone to come together and celebrate such occasions.

Other speakers on the occasion included Pura Sambyo, President of TSD, and H. P. Vivek, IAS, Deputy Commissioner. Earlier, in his welcome address, Keni Bagra, Superintendent of Police, Ziro, and President of the Ziro Mopin Committee, highlighted the significance of Mopin, which is celebrated to invoke peace and a bountiful harvest.

Heemani Meena, ADC, IAS, along with officials from the district administration, PRI members, and a large number of local residents, participated in the celebration.
The day-long event featured cultural performances, while various sports activities were conducted in the run-up to the festival.
