HPDCAPL Organizes Sensitization Program on Carbon Neutrality

The Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Limited (HPDCAPL) successfully hosted a one-day Sensitization Program on Carbon Neutrality at its corporate office in Itanagar, focusing on raising awareness, promoting sustainable practices, and exploring Arunachal Pradesh’s potential in the carbon market.

The event was graced by Samuel Changkija, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest (Environment & Climate Change) as the Chief GuestShriKishan Prajapati, Associate Director, Creduce Technologies, as the Resource Person, and Varaprasad K, AGM, NABARD, as the Guest of Honour. Key stakeholders, including NHPC, DOEFCC, NABCONS, the Forest Department, and major financial institutions like SBI, ICICI Bank, and YES Bank, actively participated, underscoring the banking sector’s role in financing climate initiatives. Kishan Prajapati provided insights into carbon credits, voluntary and compliance carbon markets, and India’s regulatory framework, emphasizing Arunachal Pradesh’s immense potential in the carbon market as a source of green jobs and revenue.

HPDCAPL CMD, Er. TokoOnuj, reaffirmed India’s Net Zero by 2070 commitment, stressing the urgent need for GHG reduction and HPDCAPL’s role as a Carbon Development Unit in Arunachal Pradesh.
 VaraprasadK, AGM, NABARD, spoke on climate resilience, NABARD’sClimate Change Fund (CCF), and the collaborative role of financial institutions in supporting carbon neutrality. Representatives from YES Bank, SBI, and other financial institutions expressed their support, while Chief Guest Shri Samuel Changkija, IFS, emphasized the importance of a structured roadmap and robust carbon credit trading mechanisms to achieve sustainability goals. 

HPDCAPL’s Sensitization Program on Carbon Neutrality marks a pivotal step toward sustainability in Arunachal Pradesh. By bringing together key stakeholders from forestry, finance, and climate resilience, the initiative underscores HPDCAPL’s unwavering commitment to environmental progress and carbon neutrality. This collaborative approach not only raises awareness but also sets the stage for actionable strategies to combat climate change.Arunachal Pradesh’s immense potential in the carbon market adds another layer of excitement, offering new opportunities for green jobs and sustainable revenue generation.

The engagement of financial institutions and NABARD’s Climate Change Fundfurther strengthens the initiative, ensuring structured carbon credit trading mechanisms that can drive both economic growth and environmental sustainability.

HPDCAPL reaffirmed its dedication to environmental conservation, aiming to lead Arunachal Pradesh in carbon credit initiatives and integrate the state into the global carbon market. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by ErTakar Batak, Deputy Manager (E/M), HPDCAPL, acknowledging the contributions of all dignitaries and participants. This initiative marks a significant step toward a greener, carbon-neutral future for Arunachal Pradesh, reinforcing the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
