MTS Arrested for Drug Peddling Inside Civil Secretariat; 44.36g Heroin Seized

ITANAGAR I Apr I 8 :

A suspected drug peddler, identified as Vicky Chetry (32 years), has been arrested by the Capital Police from the Civil Secretariat and seized 44.36 grams of heroin, along with syringes, cash, and empty vials from his Possession .

The accused is a resident of Zero Point near Gumpa Mandir, Itanagar, and a permanent resident of Village Borgolai Milan Nagar, Margherita, in Tinsukia District, Assam. He is currently employed as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in the Horticulture Department.

Earlier, the police received a telephonic tip-off from a Civil Secretariat staff member, reporting that a suspected drug peddler had been confined inside a bathroom on the third floor of Block No. 3 by alert security personnel.

The suspect was believed to have entered the premises with the intention of selling narcotics. Acting swiftly, a police team led by SDPO Kengo Dirchi — including Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, SI Kenter Tacha, and the PS ready party — rushed to the Secretariat under the supervision of Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS, SP Itanagar.

A personal search was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and a First Class Magistrate (NDPS). During the search, police recovered 8 plastic vials containing suspected heroin, 1 tobacco container with suspected heroin, 4 used 1ML syringes, and cash amounting to Rs. 32,760 from the accused’s possession.

Upon further questioning, the accused revealed that he had hidden more contraband behind the bathroom window.
Further search led to the recovery of 18 additional plastic vials containing suspected heroin and 3 scissors believed to be used in the preparation or handling of narcotics.

A case has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is currently underway.
The department has commended the Secretariat staff for their vigilance and timely cooperation.
