The flooding Burhi Dehing River following continuous rainfall has washed away a Type 3 quarter of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Balinong. Reportedly, two Type 2 quarters are on the verge of collapse.
The boys’ hostel and three bachelor’s barracks near the riverbank are also under threat, causing widespread fear among trainees and staff.
The situation is becoming increasingly dire, with the entire ITI compound at risk of submersion and erosion if preventive measures are not taken urgently by the authorities.
ITI Balinon in Miao under Changlang district is situated along the banks of the Burhi Dehing River.
Due to yearly soil erosion, the rising water levels have eroded the institute campus, threatening infrastructure and affecting the smooth functioning of the institute.
